God's Power, Not Our Own

Oct 26, 2025    Pastor Mike Bucher

This message confronts one of the most critical truths we often overlook in our spiritual walk: we cannot accomplish anything of eternal value through our own strength. Drawing from Zechariah 4:6—'Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord'—we're reminded that God is actively searching for people whose hearts are completely reliant on Him. The passage in 2 Chronicles 16 reveals how King Asa won a massive battle when he relied on God, yet stumbled in a smaller conflict when he trusted his own schemes. This pattern mirrors our own lives. We're quick to devise plans, work harder, and exhaust ourselves trying to serve God, when what He truly desires is for us to surrender and let His Spirit work through us. The analogy of being a glove with Jesus as the hand captures this beautifully—our role isn't to work for God, but to yield to Him working in us and through us. The message challenges us to move beyond both the extreme of cessationism (believing supernatural gifts have ended) and charismania (hyper-emotional excess) to embrace the balanced, powerful presence of the Holy Spirit. When we finally acknowledge 'without Me, you can do nothing' (John 15:5), we position ourselves to experience 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me' (Philippians 4:13). This isn't about religious performance—it's about divine partnership where God receives all the glory and we become genuine witnesses of His transforming power.
