How to Respond When Christians Are Attacked

Jan 25, 2026    Pastor Mike Bucher

This message confronts us with one of Christianity's most challenging calls: responding to attacks with love rather than retaliation. Drawing from Romans 12, Matthew 5, and 1 Peter 2-4, we're reminded that our battle isn't against people but for people's souls. The sermon contrasts two reactions when Christians face persecution—the fleshly response of fighting back versus the Spirit-led response modeled by Jesus. Through the lens of Les Misérables, we see how a minister's radical grace transforms a convicted thief who had stolen from and assaulted him. Instead of seeking justice, the minister gives even more, demonstrating that the goodness of God leads to repentance. This isn't weakness but meekness—strength under control. As our world increasingly embraces the spirit of Antichrist through various cultural movements, we'll face more opposition for speaking truth about abortion, sexuality, and Jesus as the only way to God. Yet we're called to bless those who curse us, pray for our enemies, and overcome evil with good. The Spirit of glory rests upon us when we're reproached for Christ's name. This supernatural response is only possible when we walk in the Spirit, filled daily with God's presence, allowing Him to conform us to Jesus' image.
